November 20 – How to ask the right questions

1. To start, you will hand-in your Pursuit of Happiness reflections.  Remember that only students who hand it in on time will be eligible for the opportunity to make corrections and receive up to a 3% rise in your mark.

If you are not finished, take a “Late Assignment Form.”

2.  Next,  I will introduce our unit culminating: “The Interview and Case Study” assignment.  You can find this on pg.14-17 of your workbook.

3. Then, we will start exploring how to generate compelling interview questions for this assignment.

a. We will learn about Bloom’s Taxonomy by looking over and discussing this package.

b. You will be arranged into groups of four in order to create your own questions. Your group’s goal is to create three questions for each of the High-Five principles:

Principle 1: Know yourself, believe in yourself, and follow your heart (Written on purple paper)

Principle 2: Change is constant
 (Written on yellow paper)

Principle 3: Learning is ongoing (Written on pink paper)

Principle 4: Focus on the journey
 (Written on orange paper)

Principle 5: Access your allies
 (Written on blue paper)

c. A couple of students will act as “moderators” for our activity, travelling around the room as questions are completed and making sure there is no repetition between groups.  If they find that similar questions are arising, they will politely ask groups to go back to the drawing board.

Note: you will only be allowed to use ONE of the questions we created in each category (for a total of 5 of 15 questions).  The rest must be written individually.

d. When finished, we will post our questions onto the wall, so you can access them in advance of completing your assignment.

4. With any remaining time, you may note these questions down or start to formulate 10 of your own.

Have a great long weekend!
